Emirate of Sharjah

The Emirate of Sharjah is located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf , with a coast length of 16 km and stretches more than 80 kilometers deep inside the land . Three areas located on the East Coast of the Emirate , on the Gulf of Oman , belong to Sharjah . They are Kalba , Khor Fakkan and Dibba Al Hosn .

The area of the Emirate of Sharjah is about 2590 square kilometers , equivalent to 3.3 % of the total area of the country , without counting its islands . Its total population is 793,573 people according to the census of December 2005 . The City of Sharjah is the capital of the Emirate of Sharjah . It is located on the Arabian Gulf and is the residence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi , the Ruler . It also hosts all the government departments , companies , banks and hotels .

The city and its markets and commercial buildings are designed on the Islamic model . There are also many entertainment areas , such as Al Qasba Canal , the Park Island and the Corniche of Khalid Lake . The city has in particular a very large number of mosques .

Sharjah International Airport and Port Khalid are some of the important places in Sharjah . There are some oases in Sharjah ; one of which is AL Dhaid , with its fertile land and a lot of farms , that produce large quantities of vegetables and agricultural products . The Eastern region of Sharjah lies on the Gulf of Oman , including Khor Fakkan , which is one of the most important cities , with its important sea port , as well as the islands of Abu Musa and Seer Bu Naeer .

The cultural and educational monuments give the Emirate of Sharjah its true image of a modern city , which is nevertheless holding its culture and traditions . The historical Museums , heritage locations and archaeological sites are evidences of the influence of that era on the modern life of Sharjah .

Sharjah was chosen by The UNESCO as the Capital of the Arab Culture for the year 1998 , as a result of the tireless efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi , Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah , which made Sharjah the capital of culture on the Gulf and Arab levels . Sharjah is the home of global Nature Museums , including the Museum of Fine Arts , which contains a rare selection of historical artifacts of a significant importance to the history of the United Arab Emirates .

The unique strategic location of Sharjah in the center of the UAE helped in achieving prosperity in the International Navigation Traffic through the past 65 years . the Emirate of Sharjah stretches on the shores of the Gulf of Oman , covering vast areas of valleys and mountains . The city of Sharjah is surrounded by many hotels overlooking the beaches and Khalid Lake , supported by a number of restaurants , gardens and parks .
